Sonya Gonzalez, mother of the little boys that played Jacob's kids in 'Water for Elephants', talked about meeting Rob 

 

PattinsonPost interviewed Sonya Gonzales, the mom of the WFE kids. Here's an excerpt.

(...)Sonya, her husband and the boys headed out to the site of the filming very early one morning. Her boys really had no idea who Robert Pattinson was, but her oldest was so excited to get a chance to meet the elephant, Tai. Her youngest son was pretty happy just to get to do whatever his older brother was doing. When the boys went to the trailer to get their hair cut, they ran into Robert Pattinson. As they were introduced, the actor smiled and joked about, ‘oh more kids’, because he’d already met the three little girls who would be playing his daughters in the film.

Shortly after the filming of her sons, Sonya and her husband had the opportunity to join the cast for the cast party. “I was struck by how ‘down to earth’ and approachable both Robert Pattinson and the director of the movie, Francis Lawrence, were.” She chatted with Francis first and she remembers him as being ‘super nice’. She said when she mentioned how nice it would be to see Robert in a different movie other than Twilight, he told her he was ‘proud’ of the job that Robert was doing in the film. Her memories of talking with Robert are blurry and she recalls the whole experience as being ‘surreal’. “He’s so much taller than I am and he was dressed like a regular guy with a ball cap on. I didn’t know he was from England until he spoke to me.” Once she heard him speak, she said she asked him about his impressions of the US, where he grew up in England and how often he gets to see his family. She also said he was ‘very sweet’ and he didn’t hesitate to let her husband take a picture of her with him.

WFE TO OPEN SHANGHAI FILM FESTIVAL

Director Francis Lawrence's latest romantic drama "Water for Elephants" starring Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson will open the Shanghai International Film Festival.

The opening ceremony is bound to be a spectacular with over 300 celebrities from home and abroad walking the red carpet.

Among them are media mogul Keith Rupert Murdoch and his wife Wendi Deng; Hollywood star Susan Sarandon, Matt Dillon, and Mischa Barton; director John Woo and Feng Xiaogang; and of course Barry Levinson. Levinson is the president for the seven-member jury for the Golden Goblet Awards.

The ceremony will be held at the Shanghai Grand Theater at 6:30 p.m. this Saturday, June 11.

During the premiere they had the opportunity of talking to her and Robert Pattinson regarding this auction and they were both pleased and excited at the idea. The site believes that every bit helps and as fans we can make a difference. Instead of keeping what they obtained they are putting it to a good cause.

REMEMBER THE LEATHER JACKET ROB WERAS IN WFE?HE KEPT IT

Have you ever wondered what becomes of all the amazing (and no doubt, costly) costumes after a movie finishes filming? Because that's ALL we could think about during "Water for Elephants." Seriously. The stunning gowns, the beaded circus wear, the boots worn by Robert Pattinson—what would happen to those things? Were they just going to be thrown in a trash can somewhere (and if so, WHERE IS THAT TRASH CAN)?

Luckily for us, "WFE" costume designer Jacqueline West stepped in before we descended into Dumpster-diving madness and provided some answers. The clothes, at least for "WFE," were not discarded (phew!). In fact, Jacqueline said that Reese and Rob actually kept some of the items.

Of course, Rob didn't go home empty-handed either.

"I think Rob kept his leather jacket that he jumps off the train in," she said, adding that co-star Christoph Waltz also likely kept a top hat he wore in the film because he "loved it so much."

WFE COSTUME DESIGNER REVEALS HER FAVE ROB LOOK - SHE LIKES HIM 'DIRTY'

For some of us it's the dashing tux, for others it's the daring leather jacket, but for "Water for Elephants" costume designer Jacqueline West, Robert Pattinson's best look in the upcoming film is without a doubt the working-man clothes his character dons right after joining the circus. This, of course, shouldn't come as too much of a surprise for those of you who have been following "WFE" news closely. After all, Jacqueline already admitted to us that she likes her RPattz "dirty and sweaty and dusty" (and really, who can blame her?!).

"I just loved him in the buckle back, 1930s Levi's with suspenders and the work shirt with boots, the bridges tucked in the boots," said Jacqueline. Oh, and speaking of the footwear, Rob's wearing authentic World War I boots in the movie.

Jacqueline said the look was one of her favorites because it revealed Rob’s form (which is apparently a lot "manlier" than it seems in "Twilight").

"It showed his physique, yet it was so real and he looked so comfortable," she said.

Of course, the work clothes do more than flatter Rob's figure (so to speak). Jacqueline said they also give the audience some insight into his character's journey.

"It was a real transformation from his college look and it shows—there's a certain sadness that it evokes from being a vet graduating from Cornell and your future...and all of a sudden you're shoveling manure for a circus," she said. "It evokes a sadness of the depression and how many lives were altered because of Wall Street. There's something provocative about this time and yet it's such a modern look."

In fact, it's a look she anticipates will soon hit the runway.

"I think that work wear is going to become a real sign of the times," she said.

RPattz helping spark fashion trends? We knew it'd happen sooner or later.

JACQUELINE WEST'S SKETCHES FOR JACOB N MARLENA IN WFE + MARLENA'S DRESS REPLICA GIVE AWAY

To play a circus performer in the big-screen adaptation of Water for Elephants, Reese Witherspoon had to transform her chic modern style into a believable retro look, something she couldn’t have done without the expertise of wardrobe designer Jacqueline West.”In the 1930s, gowns were very revealing, ” says West. “The women of that era wore them without any underwear, so that’s what Reese did. She was very brave.” Witherspoon’s co-star Robert Pattinson also got into character with his unmentionables.“He loved that I had authentic 1930s underwear for him,” West remembers. “He said it helped transport him.” 

"Before filming started, we constructed a circus tent dressing room and made these gowns right on Reese's body," West says. "She did research on the style of the 1930s and watched old movies in order to do a complete character study. She's an amazing actress."

"The script followed the novel so closely that it was easy to picture what the characters looked like. They practically dressed themselves,"says West, who created both dapper evening ensembles and well-worn work looks for Robert Pattinson's character Jacob. "Rob cleans up well... and he dirties up well too!"

"They were beautiful," Witherspoon told reporters about the original costumes created by West. "It was a different time when women loved their curves and enjoyed being voluptuous."

JACQUELINE WEST, WFE COSTUME DESIGNER, TALKS BOUT ROB AND 1930S UNDERWEAR

From a dapper black tux to grungy combat boots, Robert Pattinson dons plenty of handsome looks in the upcoming flick, "Water for Elephants." So, really, who would have guessed that his pièce de résistance on set was none other than 1930s-style underwear!

Yes, that’s right. Period underwear. Rob had to wear them to get in character for "WFE," and apparently he was a big fan, according to costume designer Jacqueline West.

"He loved that I had period underwear for him," she told Hollywood Crush recently (no doubt sparking the envy of girls EVERYWHERE). "Yes, and he loved putting that on every morning before he put his costume on, you know, he said that in his trailer, and he said it made him, it transported him to the '30s. He said he got out of bed feeling like a different person."

The underpants, along with his other period costumes, helped Rob step into the role of Jacob Jankowski, a vet student who joins the circus during the Great Depression after losing his parents, Jacqueline shared.

"I can see Rob, who is very languid, he’s very modern in his movements and he’s very cool. I could see him sort of kind of become Jacob and become a '30s young man, who was, you know, gonna work hard to carve an existence in this circus," she said.

Sorry, we're still stuck on her description of languid, modern and cool Rob.

Sigh. Okay, now moving on.

Jacqueline also added that Rob, who was "manlier" than she expected (more on that next week!), carried the clothes very well.

"He would wear clothes so beautifully and you would see kind of a transformation, you know. If he put on those World War I combat boots, his work boots, you can see him stand differently. And I could tell, Rob would say, 'Oh, this really feels right. This feels great.'"

As for whether or not Rob's undies make a cameo in the film, Jacqueline hasn't seen the final cut to know, so you're just gonna have to wait until the movie comes out on April 22 to find out!

ROB AND REESE GET PROPS FROM 'WFE' DIRECTOR

Setting a moving love story during the Great Depression might prove quite a challenge, especially considering it unfolds in this whole mysterious world of a traveling circus, no less. But director Francis Lawrence turns Sara Gruen’s acclaimed novel into a sweeping, cinematic drama for the silver screen, and one that promises to take its audience into a world beyond the thrill of the circus and into the life under the Big Top.

“Water for Elephants” follows the story of Jacob (played by Robert Pattinson of “Twilight” fame), whose world changes dramatically after his parents die in a car accident. Boarding a train out of town, he soon realizes he inadvertently joins a circus train where he meets equestrian star, Marlena (Reese Witherspoon).

The love that develops between Jacob and the married Marlena is compelling, and Lawrence is grateful that his main cast has truly been up to the task. In casting Witherspoon in the role of Marlena, Lawrence says, “Reese was the first person I cast in the film and she was a great creative partner in the early days when we were putting this project together.”
