ROBSTEN SIGHTINGS IN SQUAMISH

This week is when they’re shooting the wedding reception and accompanying scenes for Twilight Breaking Dawn in Squamish. Am told there was a cast dinner last night at Rockwell’s. In attendance: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone, and some other people I’ve never heard of. Rathbone teased Stewart about wedding dance moves and Stewart seemed “adorably anxious” about having to shoot them.

Before dinner Stewart and Pattinson played with his dog outside. I didn’t know he had a dog. I spent most of my investigative time inquiring about this dog. Unfortunately all I got back was “a dog of no distinguishable breed”. Unfortunately the source is not a dog person and was unable to do like dog owners do and speculate by analysing physical attributes. Jacek for instance thinks that any tri-colour dog must have beagle in them. Anyway, my dog Marcus just had surgery yesterday on his leg to remove a benign lump which is why I rushed home from the Junos. He’s fine. But really groggy. And hates his life because of the dreaded cone head, and has the runs. So there’s that.

I’m told Stewart and Pattinson were affectionate at the restaurant. Flirty kisses, no tongue, a lot of “inside looks and smiling”, a lot of “familiar touching”, like “two people who are close and comfortable with each other”, but she wasn’t riding him or anything. Having said that, there were definitely a few kisses. Happiness?
Which is a little different from what it’s like on set these days. Not that it’s not going well. It is. But my sources say there’s a “formality” to it that’s replaced the “collegiality” and “camp-like feel” that the cast used to have during the early days of production on the first film. Apparently it’s all very down to business, no drama, which is great, but the closeness they all once shared…it’s not the same. Very innocuous observations, nothing super juicy, but the mail from Twi-Hards has been really, really nice lately, I thought it might be fun for an update.

Robert Pattinson was spotted at Chances Casino up in British Columbia.
“Rob was playing the slot machines and my nephew and I basically ran into him,” says our source. “He was by himself and wearing a baseball hat. He wasn’t talking to anyone, he was just keeping to himself. There’s not much to do in Squamish so I’m not surprised that we saw him in there.” We told you Rob and Kristen have been going to healthy date nights at Rockwell’s Bar & Grill right down the road.

ROB TALKS BOUT COSMOPOLIS, CRONENBERG AND TWILIGHT - PREVIEW EMPIRE MAGZ
Love him (teenage girls everywhere) or loathe him (their boyfriends), Robert "R.Pattz" Pattinson is apparently here to stay. With Water For Elephants out soon, he's gearing up to star in Cosmopolis for David Cronenberg. Yes, you read that right. Yes, this may mean that you have to start liking him. Here's what he had to say about his role.
"I'm just astonished that I've been cast. I'd read the script before and thought, 'Wow, this is insane. But insane and difficult.' And then, out of nowhere, my agent said, 'Do you want to do it?' I'd never thought about working with Cronenberg, but I've always loved his movies. It just never came into my head that there would ever be that opportunity.
"Y'know, there are so few auteurs left. The one thing that pisses me off about working in films is when you start a project and then, suddenly, two days before you start, there's a massive rewrite to make an R-rated movie into something that's PG-13, and it's a totally different story. As soon as that line's been crossed, you know you're not making a movie anymore. You're making a...a... fridge magnet. But with people like Cronenberg you know that, no matter what, there will be a movie at the end, and it will be solid and self-contained, and it's not made for any other reason than it being a movie."
Pattinson also confirmed that, as far as he is concerned there will be no further Twilight outings following the two-part Breaking Dawn which finishes the current series. And he swears that he didn't know what he was getting himself into with Stephenie Meyer's massive vampire saga.
"I thought at the time, with Catherine Hardwicke and Kristen Stewart, it was going to be an indie movie. It seemed really interesting: a teen vampire movie that was going to be like Thirteen and really serious. I had no idea it was going to be this big thing you'd get on Burger King hats."
Water For Elephants is out on May 4, and the full interview with His Dreaminess is in the new issue of Empire, out Thursday.

Wild animals, trains, dwarfs and acrobats. This is what Robert Pattinson’s life has turned into: a circus
It’s the time of the recession in the United States, during the 30’s in the XX century. The inhabitants of Weehaken, New Jersey, wear the clothes of the time: the men with hats, ties, suspenders and coats, the women with long flower print dresses; the children with crops and caps. The crowd maintains itself in expectation of the parade of the fabulous Benzini brothers’ circus, whose promotional posters announce it as “The most fabulous show on earth!” Everything would be perfect of the technicians and production team of a film was not walking on the same street, which break the illusion of a trip to the past.

THE CIRCUS OF FILMING
Before interviews, reporters are placed in a convenient place to observe the circus parada, composed of a musical band, the clowns, the strong man, the dwarves, the tumblers and trapeze acts, as well as the different animals; a giraffe, a lion, two camels, two lamas, three ponies, three zebras, some mounting horses, a hippopotamus, and trained dogs. However, the main event is Reese’s revelation, mounted on Rosie the elephant, accompanied a few meters away by Waltz and Pattinson. The corwd of about 300 extras which have been called for this job, applaud this circus troop.

Josh Benson: Can you explain Robert Pattinson to me, please?Sara Vilkomerson: Oh well gee, where to begin! I guess we should start with Twilight. Are you familiar with it?Josh: How about let's assume I'm not totally up to speed on it. Just for the sake of this exercise, you understand.Sara: Mmmhmmm, sure.In my humble opinion there is an essential part of Twilight that girls go nuts for that has got a lot to do with the whole vampire, undying-love (literally!) stuff. Which is that the main character, Bella, considers herself clumsy and awkward and not particularly beautiful, which I think speaks to at least 90 percent of how girls felt in high school. And then the coolest, hottest, most unattainable boy in school picks her out as the object of his affection. This is heady heady crack-for-girls stuff already. So then they cast Robert Pattinson in the role.Oh look, I wrote about this in the Observer when the first one came out!Josh: I remember that place! That piece, too.Sara: Anyway, Robert Pattinson had the tough job of filling the shoes of a character that is described at length as being preternaturally good-looking, and he succeeded because, among other things, he happens to be preternaturally good looking. He just is.And Twilight became a huge success. And now he can't walk down the street without people asking him to bite them, which means he did a very, very good job. And now, three films later and with two more on the way, he has a tough road ahead getting people to forget about him as Edward Cullen but to see him as Robert Pattinson, the actor.

COSMOPOLIS UDATE : SARAH GADON WILL PLAY ELISE AND SAMANTHA MORTON WILL PLAY VIJA KINSKI
The Playlist With production set to being shooting this summer in Toronto, casting on David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis” starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, and Mathieu Amalric is wrapping up. Samantha Morton joined the cast last week—via a Robert Pattinson interview—now she’s been confirmed and according to Entertainment One, who is handling the picture’s distribution in Canada, one more has joined the cast: Canadian actress Sarah Gadon.
Known in Canada for the television series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?,” Gadon currently stars on the CBC drama, “The Border.” More importantly she has already worked with Cronenberg landing a smaller role in the filmmaker’s already-shot “A Dangerous Method” where she plays Emma Jung, Carl Jung’s wife. That picture stars Michael Fassbender, Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley and Vincent Cassel.
Gadon will be playing the role of Pattinson’s estranged wife Elise Shifrin.

'OTR' UPDATE : UNLIKELY TO FEATURE AT CANNES - THE PLAYLIST

The Playlist Put simply, Waltes Salles’ adaptation of Jack Kerouac‘s “On The Road” is a film we’re anticipating this year with as much excitement as any other. Unfortunately it looks like that wait will have be a tad longer with any surprise appearance at the Croisette this May unlikely with one the film’s supporting cast members, Alice Braga, telling Pilula Pop the production is working towards a 2012 release after recently wrapping principal photography.
That schedule would put the film in line for a fall festival unveiling rather than Cannes this May—a sentiment reportedly backed by the pic’s French distributor’s MK2—making for another major Croisette “dropout” along side Wong Kar-wai‘s “The Grand Masters” and Pedro Almodóvar‘s “The Skin I Live In.” Braga, when asked about whether or not the film would be in black and white as Salles had valiantly campaigned for (and despite early photos hinting at such), said “No! It’s colorful!”
An adaptation of Jack Kerouac‘s iconic novel, Salles’ film features a illustrious cast including Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi, Elisabeth Moss, Terrence Howard and Danny Morgan with the tale.
Tasked with the job of adapting the novel, meanwhile, is another “The Motorcycle Diaries” alum in scribe José Rivera who recently described his efforts to be “very faithful to ‘On The Road’ because it has so many fans. It’s a book that changed so many lives and I wanted to make sure that people got the ‘On The Road’ that they loved.”
“There’s a lot of the original book still in the screenplay, still in the film,” Rivera further explained to CityTV. “But also I brought in lots of other things like there’s a lot of poems of [Allen] Ginsberg, there’s material from Bill Burroughs, there’s stuff from Neal Cassady. In a lot of ways, the movie’s about the Beat Generation surrounding ‘On The Road.’ All those incredible personalities, all the crazy sex drugs and rock’ n roll—uh, more jazz and rock n’ roll but that’s what their lives were about. I think we tried to capture the energy of that, the spontaneity and the reckless beauty of the whole time period.”
“One of the things you do as a screenwriter in an adaptation is try to improve the original which, I know, sounds really arrogant. ‘On The Road, like any book, has its flaws and one of the flaws is that the women characters are not very well developed. The women characters seem to be the ones that get pregnant, stay at home and are upset. I worked very hard to create three dimensional women characters. Hopefully no one will be upset by that but it is a departure.”
We can’t wait to see what Salles and Rivera have crafted here. Definitely sounds like they’ve gone above and beyond the words in Kerouac’s novel in bringing the Beat Generation to the silver screen which is certainly risky but we got total faith in the duo behind ‘Motorcycle Diaries.’ Here’s to hoping they can gun for a Venice or Toronto premiere.

ROB AND REESE GET PROPS FROM 'WFE' DIRECTOR
Setting a moving love story during the Great Depression might prove quite a challenge, especially considering it unfolds in this whole mysterious world of a traveling circus, no less. But director Francis Lawrence turns Sara Gruen’s acclaimed novel into a sweeping, cinematic drama for the silver screen, and one that promises to take its audience into a world beyond the thrill of the circus and into the life under the Big Top.
“Water for Elephants” follows the story of Jacob (played by Robert Pattinson of “Twilight” fame), whose world changes dramatically after his parents die in a car accident. Boarding a train out of town, he soon realizes he inadvertently joins a circus train where he meets equestrian star, Marlena (Reese Witherspoon).The love that develops between Jacob and the married Marlena is compelling, and Lawrence is grateful that his main cast has truly been up to the task. In casting Witherspoon in the role of Marlena, Lawrence says, “Reese was the first person I cast in the film and she was a great creative partner in the early days when we were putting this project together.”

“They were in a group together.. I don’t really want to say the restaurant because I do respect their privacy but it was in Squamish. We were sitting beside them for about 4 hours or so and let them be as I’m sure they are sick of being harassed. Then as we were leaving we bumped into him on our way out and he allowed a picture to be taken with him. He was incredibly nice and down to earth.”
