KRISTEN TO STAR IN THRILLER 'CALI'

VarietySnow White' actress set for Voltage action pic.

"Snow White and the Huntsman" star Kristen Stewart is set to topline "Cali," a gritty action pic set in Los Angeles that will be produced by Voltage Productions and New School Media.

Michael Diliberti ("30 Minutes or Less") wrote the script, which follows Mya (Stewart) and Chris, a pair of San Fernando Valley lovebirds with a penchant for bad choices and dangerous behavior. After selling a fake snuff film featuring Mya, they ride off into the sunset with a bundle of cash. Years later, Mya must "return from the dead" to save the younger sister she left behind in Cali, where the young couple contends with angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs, an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat and their own contentious relationship.

Craig J. Flores ("300") and Zev Foreman ("Killer Joe") will produce for Voltage, while Diliberti will also produce. His manager, Brian Levy of New School Media, will exec produce with Voltage topper Nicolas Chartier ("The Hurt Locker") and Stewart, who will pick up her first producing credit on the project.

Diliberti developed the script on spec before it was acquired by Voltage, which attached Stewart. Producers are currently out to directors and they're anticipating a late summer start date.

"Kristen is a talented and dynamic actor, with a proven box office draw," said Flores. "Her role in 'Cali' will be edgy and sexy. It will no doubt push the envelope on the public's view of Kristen's wide-ranging abilities. Voltage is thrilled to have her as a partner on this fantastic film."

"Cali" marks a return to indie fare for Stewart, who has balanced the "Twilight" franchise pics like "Welcome to the Rileys," "The Runaways" and Walter Salles' upcoming adaptation of "On the Road." Thesp next stars in Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" and the final installment in "The Twilight Saga," which Summit will release on Nov. 16.

Diliberti is coming off the seven-figure spec sale to GK Films of comedy "Little White Corvette," which has Emma Stone attached to star. Scribe is also writing a Fox 2000 project for "Crazy, Stupid, Love" helmers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra that Simon Kinberg is producing, a Sony pic for Seth Gordon that Matt Tolmach is producing and a Warner Bros. movie for Todd Phillips with his Green Hat Films banner producing.

Voltage, which produced Kathryn Bigelow's Oscar winner "The Hurt Locker," is currently in pre-production on Shia LaBeouf-starrer "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman" and post-production on Robert Redford's political action-thriller "The Company You Keep," which also stars LaBeouf. Stewart is repped by Gersh and McKuin, Frankel and Whitehead, while WME and New School Media reps Diliberti.

SWATH UPDATE : SAM CLAFLIN TO PLAY KRISTEN'S PRINCE

Deadline Universal Pictures is setting Sam Claflin to play the role of the prince in Snow White and the Huntsman, the Rupert Sanders-directed re-imagining of the fairy tale that stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the evil queen. The studio is still working on its huntsman, and as Deadline was the first to tell you, the offer is with Thor star Chris Hemsworth. Claflin just starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and he has just been offered the title role opposite Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in the Warner Bros/Legendary supernatural thriller The Seventh Son. Claflin could make that film, which starts in March, and then follow with Snow White and the Huntsman. CAA and Independent Talent rep him.

GossipCop Sam Claflin has been picked to play the prince in Snow White and the Huntsman.
Kristen Stewart is slated for the title role, with Charlize Theron tapped as the Evil Queen. Claflin will appear in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. As for the Huntsman, Chris Hemsworth is rumored to top the list.

SNOW WHITE UPDATE : CHRIS HEMSWORTH ANOTHER POSSIBLE 'HUNSTMAN'

Variety.com Talk about striking while the hammer is hot! After weeks of seeking an A-list male lead for "Snow White and the Huntsman," Universal is zeroing in on Chris Hemsworth, the God of Thunder himself in this coming weekend's "Thor," Variety's Justin Kroll (@krolljvar) exclusively reports. Hemsworth is the current frontrunner to take the role opposite Kristen Stewart, who for two months has been locked to play the iconic fairy tale character, along with Charlize Theron as the evil queen. There are major issues to be worked out with Hemsworth's shooting schedule on "Marvel's The Avengers," and no official offer is on the table just yet, but nabbing Hemsworth now -- just days before "Thor" premieres in the U.S. -- would be a coup for the Universal project, which comes out Dec. 21, 2012, six months after Relativity Media's version starring Lily Collins and Julia Roberts. Meanwhile, notice how Universal's huntsman keeps getting younger? The 27-year-old Hemsworth brings a dynamic altogether different from previous candidates (Viggo Mortensen, 52; Hugh Jackman, 42; and Joel Edgerton, 37) by making Snow White's protector much closer in age to the 21-year-old Stewart. Romantic tension, anyone? Pic has always revolved around the relationship between the title character and the huntsman, whom the evil queen orders to kill Snow White before he decides instead to protect and teach the young woman. There's a Prince Charming in there somewhere, and probably seven dwarves, too, but this is the role that "Snow White and the Huntsman" has been waiting for to really move forward.

SWATH UPDATE : COULD JOEL EDGERTON BE KRISTEN'S 'HUNTSMAN'?

NYMag Insiders tell Vulture that Bourne Legacy director Tony Gilroy wants to cast Australian actor Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom) as the new hero in the Matt Damon–less franchise — an agent named Martin who was part of a Treadstone-like program. But the studio has two issues with this plan: First, they worry that Edgerton, who will next appear in their remake of The Thing, doesn't yet have enough worldwide recognition to carry this franchise. And second, our spies tell us that the studio is strongly considering Edgerton for the role of the Huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman, now that Hugh Jackman passed on it last week. (Edgerton's lack of global fame wouldn’t be as much of an issue here, as Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron would be the names selling the film.) But a decision needs to be made, as both films have to happen soon.

We’re told that the studio has made significant commitments for Snow White, and Stewart (who’s playing Snow) has already slashed her fee to make the film happen; this is clearly a top priority for the studio, and with most of the pieces in place they want to get it going quickly. And Universal is also facing pressure from the Robert Ludlum estate to get another Bourne film going. Currently the plan is to start shooting by July.Click to read the full article

The Playlist Tony Gilroy Wants Joel Edgerton For ‘The Bourne Legacy’
"With Hugh Jackman recently passing and the titular male lead in “Snow White and the Huntsman” still open, Universal is considering the actor for this franchise as well, which seems a bit bizarre. We think ‘Bourne’ would benefit much more from an “unknown” lead than this fairy tale franchise which will already have a helluva task in luring audiences as Tarsem‘s Julia Roberts-led film will hit theaters six months before this one.

So, we’ll have to see how Universal eventually plays the Joel Edgerton card. Vulture suggests that if he goes to ‘Huntsman,’ we can expect McAvoy or LaBeouf to land ‘Bourne,’ but if not, the field remains pretty wide open.

SNOW WHITE UPDATE : VARIETY CONFIRMS KRISTEN AND CHARLIZE.VIGGO MORTENSEN DROPS OUT

Variety After several weeks of fruitless negotiations, Viggo Mortensen has left behind the male lead in "Snow White and the Huntsman," Variety's Justin Kroll reports. The Universal pic still has Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron locked in for roles as Snow White and the evil queen, respectively. Mortensen's departure is interesting for two reasons: One, it re-opens the search for the Huntsman role, and two, it lends credence to reports that Zack Snyder is eager to have the "Lord of the Rings" actor for a villain in Warner Bros.' "Superman" reboot, which will shoot at the same time as "Snow White."

Variety_JLD SWATH peeps, just to be clear: KStew and Charlize are already signed -- they're not going anywhere!

More from THR Viggo Mortensen, who has been in protracted negotiations for the part in Universal’s high-flying Snow White and the Huntsman picture, has fallen out of talks to join the project.

The movie is one of several Snow White projects in active development—and, with star Kristen Stewart and other cast members locked, the one furthest out of the gate.

Commercials helmer Rupert Sanders is making his directorial debut on the Joe Roth-produced pic, which has Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen.

Negotiations with Mortensen have been contentious since the beginning, with insiders claiming the actor asked for $8 million as well as gross participation. The two sides were so far apart that the dealmaking collapsed at one point, allowing the actor to flirt with playing the villain role in Warner Bros’ new Superman movie.

Talks resumed, but sources now say the deal frayed away overnight. Insiders don’t know if the latest development is a death knell for Mortensen’s involvement or simply a negotiating tactic. But as of now, Universal is moving on. Read the rest at  The Hollywood Reporter

From Indiewire about Mortensen bowing out of the project.
Apparently already contentious talks broke down last night and while it’s unknown if they’re completely dead, Universal and producer Joe Roth appear to be moving on. This is a 2nd blow to Uni’s ‘Snow White’ film. The first one essentially came when Tarsem Singh‘s rival “The Brothers Grimm: Snow White,” decided they could beat ‘Huntsman’ to the starting gate even though only Julia Roberts is signed on, by a full six months (‘Grimm’ is set for a June 29, 2012 release while ‘The Huntsman’ is set for a December 21, 2012 bow).

Variety London-based sales and financing house Intandem Films has pacted with L.A. shingle Libertine Films to handle international sales on edgy drama "K-11."

'THE YELLOW HANDKERCHIEF' FEATURED IN ROGER EBERT'S THE BEST ART FILMS OF 2010 LIST

Photobucket

Suntimes. Roger Ebert's Blog This is the last of my lists of the best films of 2010, and the hardest to name. Call it the Best Art Films. I can't precisely define an Art Film, but I knew I was seeing one when I saw these. I could also call them Adult Films, if that term hadn't been devalued by the porn industry. These are films based on the close observation of behavior. They are not mechanical constructions of infinitesimal thrills. They depend on intelligence and empathy to be appreciated.

RUMOR : K-11 SHOOTING IN JUNE?

GreatNewMovies The rumors were swirling around for years about Kristen Stewart acting in her mother’s movie ‘K-11’. But, the details always remained a myth.

The movie ‘K-11’ has been delayed since 2008 due to various factors, such as casting, funding and the schedules of Kristen Stewart and it was shelved since then. The movie is supposed to start it’s filming from June 6, which could probably come in the way of ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’, if the schedules are not adjusted.

The movie ‘K-11’ is all about one of the Music legends of Hollywood ending up in male prison of K-11 unit in Los Angeles. K-11 is a unit provided for the gay people and the transgenders who could not survive in the normal prison.

Reportedly, Kristen Stewart is playing the character of Birdy, a 19-year-old girl, with red hair just like a normal boy. She gets molested by a child molester Detroit who likes her, as she is small and young. Later in the plot, she kills him as retaliation. The complete ‘K-11’ unit works together, to throw the guard, who abuses them verbally and physically.

The complete film is violent as people fighting with each other to dominate and the rest fight for their survival. Jules Stewart, the mother of Kristen Stewart is the script writer and the director of ‘K-11’.

KRISTEN WILL BE IN 'THE SNOW WHITE AND HUNTSMEN'?

With word circulating that Viggo Mortensen is in talks to play one of the title characters in the Rupert Sanders-directed Snow White and the Huntsman for Universal Pictures, will Twilight Saga's Kristen Stewart end up with playing Snow White? Though the studio has been testing young actresses and no one is set, there are persistent rumors that Stewart looms large as a potential lead. Mortensen surfaces in the lead of that movie in a role that had been rumored for Michael Fassbender. But Fassbender never had an offer and he committed to the Ridley Scott-directedPrometheus with Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron. Ironically, Theron is also starring in Huntsmen as the Evil Queen. Stewart is repped by Gersh. Stay tuned...via kmitch1217

Update: Deadline reports that Kristen Stewart “looms large as a potential lead” in the role of Snow White in “Snow White And The Huntsman.” Uh, not much more than that other than confirmation of rumors that have been making the rounds, but certainly a much different choice that relatively smaller names that have been mentioned up until now.
That was fast. Michael Fassbender is officially out of Universal‘s hotly-tipped “Snow White and the Huntsman” (he took Ridley Scott‘s “Prometheus” instead) and evidently a replacement has already been found. Viggo Mortensen is reportedly in talks to join in the fantasy re-imagining that newcomer Rupert Sanders is helming. Notice that Charlize Theron is only mentioned to be in talks in Variety‘s report, because, as we’ve been saying for weeks now, she’s not officially locked in like many have assumed (and like Fassbender, she may take a “Prometheus” role which would likely see her exit the project as well).
Written by Evan Daugherty, the script was high up on the 2010 Blacklist pages, and this new spin on the popular fairy tale sees the titular huntsman (Mortensen) being hired by the evil queen (Theron, if she decides to take the role) to track down her runaway stepdaughter, the fairest in all the land. When he realizes that the queen intends to kill Snow White, he helps her escape, and the pair go on the run. Apparently, the huntsman and Snow White will be chained together for a good portion of the film, and there is still a handsome prince who will win the fair lady’s heart.
Actresses such as Riley Keough, Felicity Jones (who now has Sundance buzz from the hit indie “Like Crazy”—it was bought by Paramount), Bella Heathcoat and Alicia Vikanderare all up-and-coming actresses that have reportedly been up for the role, but no one has officially nabbed the part yet. “Snow White and the Huntsman” already has a Dec. 21, 2012 release date and is aiming to shoot this summer.  Theron and Mortensen co-starred together briefly in “The Road” in 2009. via kmitch1217
Is Kristen Stewart the fairest of them all?
The Twilight star is on the list for the role of Snow White in Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman.
The movie, being directed by Rupert Sanders, is in deep casting mode, with Viggo Mortensen entering negotiations to play the Huntsman earlier Wednesday. Charlize Theron is in negotiations to play the evil queen.
Stewart is a name that Universal has kept coming back to since acquiring the project even as it went through a series of screen tests with actresses such as Riley Keough, Felicity Jones and Alicia Vikander. Emily Browning tested this past weekend (Stewart has reached a point in her career where testing isn't required).
Stewart, arguably one of the biggest stars in the world thanks to the Twilight movies, has focused on indie projects in between the vampire romancers, and this could become her first studio project since becoming a name. It also would put her in the shoes of an iconic character.
The Gersh-repped actress is currently shooting the Breaking Dawn movies, but the Snow White team has been making repeated overtures even as late as last week. via kstewangel

Kristen Stewart’s name is at the center of rumors surrounding Snow White and the Huntsman.
Right now, the Twilight Saga actress “looms large” for the title character role, according to Deadline.
Due to scheduling conflicts, Viggo Mortensen has become the most likely Huntsman, replacing Michael Fassbender.
Charlize Theron is attached to the project as the Evil Queen. Rupert Sanders is due to direct.
Gossip Cop is looking into the Stewart casting rumor, but it’s still extremely early in the process, with most major pieces still in flux.
