SCREENSLAM - OTR CAST INTERVIEW - PART 1

The cast share the challenges they had to conquer in order to become their characters. They spoke about having to take what they learned about the characters and apply it to their acting without letting it get in the way of their performance. Stewart compares her earlier role of playing Joan Jett in The Runaways to her role in On The Road as Marylou.

“It’s not for everyone, which is kind of the heart of the story. They’re not necessarily going to be able to roll with every crowd. I don’t find them to be rebellious. I think they’re just really truly being who they are, and they don’t fit in. ” – Kristen Stewart

“To be able to play characters that are ridding of inhibitions and fears, we have to try to rid of our inhibitions and fears while trying to achieve a hard sort of goal at the end of the obstacle.” – Garrett Hedlund

“Each of us did our own research as much as possible. At the end of the day you have to take in everything about what you understand from their personalities that we’ve heard from the experts and things and then you also have to then leave that behind to some extent so that it doesn’t become a burden.” – Sam Riley

VIGGO MORTENSEN MENTIONS KRISTEN

BuzzSugarOne of your next films coming out is On the Road. How was it filming that movie with Kirsten Dunst, Kristen Stewart, and Tom Sturridge?
Viggo Mortensen: Of the three actors you mention, I only worked with Kristen Stewart, who did a great job with her character from what I could see. Walter Salles, the director, has a light touch and is very kind, extremely intelligent, and very helpful with the actors. Great crew on that shoot. The images I have seen are strikingly beautiful; they really capture post-WW2 USA landscapes, people.

'MAD MEN' ACTRESS, ELIZABETH MOSS TALKS BOUT KRISTEN

Amy Adams may have been slightly intimidated by Kristen Stewart's young age when they were making On The Road.
So did their other costar, Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss, feel the same way about Ms. Stewart?

"She's super nice," Moss told me about K.Stew at this week's Hollywood Foreign Press Association's annual grant-giving luncheon. "She's really so normal and so nice. I was probably more intimidated by Amy Adams because she's like my favorite actress in the world. So everybody was just intimidated by everybody else."
Moss insists she doesn't feel too much pressure being a part of the movie adaptation of Jack Keoruac's Beat Generation classic. "The great thing is it's not on me," she said. "You know what I mean? It's not my responsibility but who they chose to adapt it and who they chose to be in it and who they chose to direct."

GARRETT HEDLUND AND OTR PRODUCER TALK KRISTEN AND FILM STATUS

Garrett and Kristen came out to support Chris Weitz at his premiere for A Better Life Tuesday night at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and while Stewart didn’t do any interviews, Celebuzz snagged Garett for a hot second.

Here is what he had to say about the status of the film, and working with pal Kristen.

Hedlund was on the arm of his On the Road producer Rebecca Yeldham, who is also the director of the Los Angeles Film Festival. Garrett has been with her throughout LAFF, and the two played coy when we tried to get the status of the flick.

You are just going to have to ask the producer I have with me,” smiled Garrett, looking at Rebecca.

Let’s see, well the status is we are in post-production, I can’t really say much more. Except that [the movie] is awesome,” Yeldham replied.

Possibly putting two and two together (since the utterly fantastic film by Weitz A Better Life was done by Summit), we asked if Summit snagged the rights to On the Road, since Hedlund showed his support Tuesday.

Umm,” laughed Garrett again playing coy. “It’s all in discussion,” chimed in Rebecca, with a knowing smile. “We haven’t made any decisions yet.”

As for working with Kristen, Garrett said the experience was “wonderful.” “She’s a great actress, she’s awesome. It was a lot of fun.”

They all love each other. We all love each other,” laughed Rebecca. “Hopefully we can tell you all more soon!”

SAM RILEY TALKS BOUT KRISTEN

Did you spend much time with your On The Road co-star Kristen Stewart? She is very good. She’s so good that she is not going to be held back by her [Twilight] franchise. To be that good when she’s like 20 years old or whatever is really remarkable.

VIDEO : GARRETT HEDLUND TALKS BOUT KRISTEN AND SAM RILEY

“It’s great. Everybody’s great. I mean Kristen’s such a phenomenal actress and you know I’m so happy for her. And you know I think all of us will kind of agree saying that it was one of the best times of our lives. I mean Sam Riley who’s playing Kerouac in this, you know… incredible. That guy’s gonna be my brother for the rest of my life."

NEW PIC OF KRISTEN, GARRETT AND SAM AT OTR BOOT CAMP + NY TIMES ARTICLE

Gerald Nicosia, second from left, and the cast of “On the Road,” Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley and Kristen Stewart at boot camp.
"In July, before filming began near the primary sets in Montreal, the cast and crew went through Beat boot camp — three weeks of immersion with Kerouac experts. None of the cast and crew were old enough to remember the Beat era, so Mr. Nicosia, of Corte Madera, approached the sessions as if he were teaching ancient history, “like I was bringing them the Holy Grail.”

He said the actors were especially intense, knowing they would upset a lot of people if they didn’t portray the characters accurately." Scott James, NY Times.
